Shows subject from head to toe,
Used in group/action shots
Or to establish a person
Extreme Wide/Long Shot
EWS/ELS
Far from subject, so he/she isn’t visible,
to show surroundings and audience where and when action is taking place
Medium Wide/Long Shot
MWS/MLS
Shows subjects knee up to show the environment
Used when subject is speaking without too much emotion and in group shots
Medium Shot
MS
Shows subject from waist up
Used for some action while still focusing on subject, used in 2 shots
Medium Close Up
MCU
Shows subject from chest up
Gives clear shot of subject’s face and impression subject is talking directly to you, commonly used in interviews
Close Up
CU
Shot from shoulders up, exaggerates facial details conveying emotions
Viewers are in subject’s personal space, sharing feelings
Extreme Close Up
ECU
shows extreme detail and tends to make viewer uncomfortable
Used in extreme shots to emphasize dominance of subject’s emotions
