Fields Flashcards
What can feel gravity?
Anything with mass
What is F?
Gravitational force
What is g?
The force per kilogram of mass exerted by a gravitational field on an object.
What is V?
The work done per kilogram against gravitational force to move an object from infinity to a given point.
What is gravitational potential difference?
The energy needed to move one kilogram of mass between two points.
What is an equipotential?
Surfaces on which the potential is constant - perpendicular to field lines. The gravitational potential difference is zero when moving along an equipotential, so the work done is also zero.
What is Kepler’s 3rd Law?
The square of the orbital period t is directly proportional to the cube of the radius r.
