Field Experiments Flashcards
1
Q
Features
A
- Field experiments are conducted in a more natural enviorment
- Deliberate changes to IV
- Measures the DV (usually quantitative data
- Experimenter controls some of the extraneous varibles
2
Q
Strengths
A
- Greater ecological validity. This makes it so the situation is more likely to happen in day-to-day life, being more realistic. This means it can be applied beyond the experiment.
- Less bias from demand characteristics. if it’s in a real life situation the pt’s feel like they’re in everyday normality. This means that they won’t cause many pt’s extreaneous varibles.
3
Q
Weaknesses
A
- More difficult to establish cause and effect. The experimenter is in another setting and they can’t control the siutation as well as a lab experiment. This means that it is harder to establish cause and effect which may question the results
- more difficult to check reliability because it hasn’t been controlled and is less of a standardised procedure, this means it is harder to replicate.
