Fibro-osseous Lesions Flashcards
Pathology of fibro-osseous lesions
Replacement of bone by fibrous connective tissues in which mineralized material gets deposited
Which syndromes are related to fibrous dysplasia?
- Jaffe-Lichtenstein syndrome ( Cafe au lait )
- McCune-Albright Syndrome ( Cafe au lait + multiple endocrinopathies )
- Mazabraud syndrome ( intra-muscular myxomas )
How do you manage Fibrous Dysplasia?
Clincoradiographic diagnosis
FD usually stabilizes upon skeletal maturation
Some even show some regression
- Surgical Intervention followed by regrowth
Delay surgery until disease burns out
What is a cemento-ossifying fibroma
It is true neoplasm with significant growth potential
Benign mesenchymal odontogenic neoplasm.
General radiographic features of Cemento-ossifying fibroma?
Nice cortical rim, center mixed, tooth displacement, expansion seen on CBCT.
Management of Cemento-ossifying fibroma
Clinicoradiologic features + Incisional biopsy
Lesions are well circumscribed
Large lesions may need resection and reconstruction
Cemento-Osseous Dysplasia Types
Focal
Peri-apical
Florid
