Fibres/Bodily Functions Flashcards
Explain how the muscular system helps to create movement
Skeletal muscles (voluntary muscles) work in pairs known as agonist and antagonist to help create movement in the human body
Explain how the muscular system helps maintain posture
The muscular system helps to maintain posture by using muscle tone to keep an erect posture.
Explain how the muscular system helps maintain bodily functions and body heat
Muscles maintain body heat by expelling heat such as when you shiver this is the muscles shaking trying to heat you up. The energy that muscles use to contract also help to create and maintain body heat.
The three types of muscles are involved with essential. bodily functions
What are the three muscle types
Cardio, Smooth and skeletal muscle
Skeletal Muscle
Voluntary muscle such as Bicep
Cardiac Muscle
Only found in the heart, involuntary control
Smooth Muscle
Found in the blood vessels and walls of the intestines, involuntary control
The four tes of muscle fibre arrangements are
Multipennete, Bipennate, Unipennate, Fusiform
Fusiform
Fusiform muscles run in the same direction as the tendon such as the Bicep bracchi. These types of muscles produce low force but can shorten over a large range
Pennate
Pennate muscle fibres run at angles to the tendon and make up 75% of the skeletal muscles and produce great force.
Four Functions of the Muscular System
Provide Movement
Maintain Posture
Retain Body Heat
Maintain Bodily Functions
