Silk
A protein based natural filament fibre which comes from the cocoon of the silk worm.
Wool
An animal fibre from the fleece of sheep.

Worsted- produces fine, smooth, strong fibres.Woollen- produces, shorter, bulkier, thicker fibres.

What are the two ways of gathering silk?
- Heating the cocoons to suffocate the worms and loosen the silk gum. 2. The moth is allowed to break out of the cocoon, this creates short staple fibres.
Acrylic
A soft, warm fabric that emulates wool in its handle and feel.
Nylon
A man-made synthetic fibre with high strength; also called polyamide.
Polyester
A man-made fibre made from synthetic fibre.
Synthetic Fibres
Manufactured from chemicals.
Acetate
A man made cellulosic fibre made from wood pulp or cotton. Have a luxurious and lustrous appearance. Fast drying, crisp/ soft to the touch. Lining, lingerie, fashion garments.
