What’s the first step to fiber drawing?
A
~ in the fiber drawing tower, temps around 1900C soften tip of the preform
~ gravity causes a molten gob to free fall until it’s stretched into a thin strand

What’s the second step to fiber drawing?
A
~ pulled by a tractor belt at bottom of draw tower and wound on winding drums (draw speeds of 10-20m/s are typical)
~ diameter of the drawn fiber is controlled to 125 μm (single mode) based on a laswer gauge signal use to feedback control draw speeds

What’s the third step to fiber drawing?
A
~ a two layer protective polymeric coatin is applied to the fiber-a soft inner coating and a harder outer coating, which are cured by UV lamps
