Why is freezing oocytes harder than freeing sperm?

A

Because the oocytes have a large cytoplasm that can create ice crystals that cause damage.

What is the live birth rate per transferred embryo?

A

16%. This is reduced with maternal age.

1 in every 20 oocytes will result in a live birth.

What does ovarian cryopreservation involve?

A

Take out the cortex ovaries and freeze them. They can then be taken and reinserted back into the patient. Usually attached back to the medulla of the ovary. The oocytes can then be used for IVF or natural conception.

Can also do a uterus tansplant

A

Absence of uterus - hysterectomy.
