Why was Fenton in the Crimea?
A
he was drawn to the dramatic landscapes of the Crimean war
- he often captured the rugged terrain, desolate battlefields & imposing fortresses
- his images often emphasised the vastness & grandeur of the Crimean Peninsula

A
he often staged scenes
e.g. power of the Br military, suffering of the civilians

Who did he mostly take pictures of?
A
he took photos of officers rather than regular soldiers mainly due to the fact he went to sell the photos for a profit
- regular soldiers wouldn’t buy his photos BUT an officer would
