Femur Flashcards
1
Q
Where do extra capsular fractures occur on femur?
A
Around shaft region
2
Q
Where does neck on femur occur
A
Where the ball (and socket) attatch to shaft
3
Q
Osteoid Ostoma
A
Pain worse at night • Benign • Originate from osteoblastic cells • Round/oval lucent centre nidus surrounded by dense sclerotic zone of cortical thickening
4
Q
Exostosis
A
Benign • Osteochondroma • Bone projection with cartilaginous cap • Teen years • Grows from epiphyseal plate parallel to long bone
5
Q
Osteogenic sarcoma
A
Malignant • Occurs at the end of a long bone in the metaphysis • Consists of osteoblasts which produce osteoid and spicules of calcified bone • Pulmonary metastases develop early • Mixed lesion – sclerotic and lytic • Sunburst pattern • Soft tissue mass • Elevation of the periosteum
6
Q
Erwings Sarcoma
A
Malignant • Arises in bone marrow of long bones • Ill defined area of bone destruction • Central portion of the shaft • Fusiform layered periosteal reaction
7
Q
Metastasis
A
Most common malignant bone tumours • Irregular poorly defined lucent lesions or poorly defined increased densities • Weaken the bone
8
Q
Multiple Myeloma
A
Widespread malignancy of plasma cells • Attacks the intramedullary canal of the diaphysis • Multiple punched out osteolytic lesions
