What is standpoint theory?
- challenges objective analysis
- knowledge is always developed from a particular standpoint or lived experience
- the everyday expertises the female standpoint were largely ignored in (sociological) knowledge developed from the male standpoint
What is feminist wave (first wave)?
- First wave: campaign for civil and political rights
• rights to vote and hold political office (1900)
What is feminist wave (second wave)?
Second wave: focus on public and private rights
• fight for equality in the home and in the workplace
What is feminist wave (third wave)?
Third wave: inclusion of LGBTI and racialized individuals (1980s)
feminist movement today?
Today the feminist movement is drawing attention to issues such as sexual harassment and violence, online bullying and shaming and media representation of women
Feminist theory (fourth wave)?
Fourth wave: fourth-wave feminism is a feminist movement that began around 2012 and is characterized by a focus on empowering of women, the use of internet tools, and intersectionality. The fourth wave seeks greater gender equality by focusing on gendered norms and marginalization for women in society.
Feminist theory (fifth wave)?
Fifth wave: Another wave? - there is no clear definition yet of what the next wave (fifth wave) of feminism/feminist theory wave might become… but feminism have evolved to include scrutiny of a multiplicity of gendered issues (but not the exclusion of women’s concerns)
