Feminism & Family Flashcards
What do Marxist feminists believe?
The exploitation of women is essential to the success of capitalism. The family produces and cares for the next generation of workers for society at almost no cost to the capitalist system (because society accepts that housework should be unpaid)
What does Benston (Marxist feminist) say?
If housework were at minimum wage levels it would damage capitalist profits hugely.
What do radical feminists believe?
The exploitation of women is down to the domination of men in society, they believe that men will always oppress women.
What do Delphy and Leonard (radical feminists) say?
The family is a patriarchal institution in which women do most of the work and men get most of the benefit.
What do liberal feminists believe?
The family is only sexist because it supports mainstream culture which is sexist. They believe that change is possible through changes in the law and social policies that discriminate against women.
