Education reinforces patriarchy. Subject choice ensures women have less access to the top jobs which is continued with class ceilings. The males gaze and sexual double standards further controls women in education.

Functionalists see this as too negative as girls pick subjects they are naturally suited to and it prepares them for their future role in society
AO1-Secondary socialisation
Education socialises boys and girls into different gender identities. Girls are encouraged to be passive and communicative while boys are encouraged to take subjects like maths and science leading to the top jobs.
AO3-Secondary socialisation
Marxist argue that being socialised into capitalist values is the more pressing issue

Boys-instrumental role (main earners)
Girls-expressive role (child care and domestic work)

Postmodernists argue this is outdated as boys and girls now have more choices

Reinforces gender inequality as girls are encouged to take subjects to suit their role like health and social care while boys are encouraged to take maths and science to get the top jobs even though girls get better results - glass ceiling
