What is the feminist perspective of the family?
The nuclear family is the base for women’s oppression as men have more power in the nuclear family.

Girls are socialised through the family to accept/submit to men and the patriarchal society’s expectations
What do liberal feminists say about the family?
Girls and boys are taught gender roles within the family which society enforces.
What do Marxist feminists say about the family?
The family helps to maintain capitalism which is run by the patriarchy
What does Oakley say about the family?
That the family is wrong to assign gender roles based on biological differences/ the family puts unnecessary stress on men and women
What does Greer say about the family?
The family exploits women as they’re told to get married from an early age/treated like it’s the most important role for them in society
What are the limitations to the feminist perspective?
Men suffer in marriages too, it is not al men who are exploitative/women’s freedom is improving (there’s a march of progress)
