The fusing of the gametes to form a zygote
Zygote
Egg and sperm fuse to form a sperm cell
Embryo
Divison of the zygote occurs and it grows. Attaches to the lining of the uterus
Foetus
After 8 weeks looks like a human
Implantation
Occurs when the fertilised egg lodges itself on the lining of the uterus
Pregnancy
40 weeks
Amniotic fluid
This fluid provides a cushion for the embryo
Umbilical cord
A tube joining the embryo to the placenta
Placenta
Is rich in blood vessels, food and oxygen passes from the mothers blood to the baby
A woman is most likely to get pregnant during the menstrual cycle
Because the egg is released
During pregnancy the woman does not have a period
The lining of the womb acts like a nest for the baby
A baby in the womb does not breath through its lungs
Oxygen is passed though the placenta and umbilical cord
