Female Anatomy Flashcards
What does the Female anatomy consist of?
Ovaries, Uterine, Uterus, Vagina, and external organs.
What do ovaries consist of?
They produce Gametes, secondary oocytes that mature into eggs.
After fertilization what hormones are involved?
Progesterone & Estrogens.
What are the ligaments that hold the Ovaries?
The Broad ligament, Ovarian ligament, and the Suspensory ligament.
What is the Ovarian cortex?
Deep to the Tunica albugenia, consist of ovarian follicles.
What is the Ovarian Medulla?
Contains Bv’s, Lv’s and nn’s.
What is the Mature follicle in the Ovaries?
Large follicle that is ready to rupture and expel its secondary oocyte, This process is called Ovulation.
What is the Corpus Luteum?
Contains remnants of a mature follicle after ovulation, also produces Progesterone, Estrogens, relaxin and inhibin.
What is the formation of Gametes called in the Ovaries?
This is called Oogenesis.
What is a primary oocyte?
This comes from maturing germ cells in fetal development of a female.
A few develop larger and are called primary oocytes.
What occurs to primary oocytes?
These cells enter mitosis during fetal development but do not finish this process until after puberty.
What are the 3 layers of the Fallopian tubes?
Mucosa, Muscularis and Serosa.
Where does a sperm usually encounter the Secondary oocyte?
This happens mostly in the “Ampulla” of the Fallopian tubes.
How long can Fertalization occur after Ovulation?
It can occur 24 hours after ovulation.
What occurs some hours after fertilization?
Materials of the Ovum and sperm unite, forming a Zygote.
This begins cell devision and moves towards the Uterus.
