feedback mechanisms Flashcards
Refers to the body’s ability to maintain a constant internal environment
Homeostasis
Shows the events that happens when a certain stimulus changes the internal condition of the body
Stimulus-response model
a structure that produces the change
stimulus
a structure that detects the change
receptor
a structure that determines the appropriate response to the stimulus
control center
can be organs, glands or tissues that are instructed to adjust the amount of output that produces a desired effect.
effector
the outcome of the adjustment that should remove the initial stimulus
response
the state of internal equilibrium despite external changing conditions
Homeostasis
an additive response, or directly proportional to the stimulus
Positive feedback
a counteracting response, or being inversely proportional to the stimulus
negative feedbacck
this type of mechanism allows the internal condition of the body to go back to its normal or ideal state by inhibiting or removing the stimulus
The negative feedback mecchanism
releases insulin
pancreas
Here, the increase in the concentration of products or substances also results in an increase in the rate of process. It allow the output to enhance the original stimulus
The positive feedback mechanism
A hormone causes muscle contractions to speed up and intensify
oxytocin
normal body temp
36.1 C- 37.4 C
