Feedback Mechanism Flashcards
Physiological processes by which organisms maintain constant and balanced physical and chemical factors in their internal environment.
Homeostasis
Physical Factors of Homeostasis
Temperature
Blood Pressure
Osmotic Pressure
Chemical Factors of Homeostasis
pH
Concentrations of sugar and salt in the blood
What are the two types of feedback mechanisms
Positive and Negative Feedback Mechanisms
The purpose of this feedback loop is that it allows organisms to maintain a stable internal environment.
Negative Feedback Mechanism
Negative Feedback Mechanism follows this general process
Increase/Decrease in stimuli > Reaction > Product > Homeostasis
Positive Feedback Mechanism follows this general process
Stimuli > Reaction > Product > Increase/Decrease in product > Homeostasis
This process is when any disruption to homeostatic balance in the body that can lead to diseases or disorders. Therefore, when homeostasis is disrupted, the body cannot function properly.
Homeostatic Imbalance
What is the process to achieve homeostasis?
Receptors detect changes/receives stimulus > Stimulus is delivered to the brain (control center) > Correction mechanism is employed > Homeostasis is achieved
