Fedulism? Flashcards
Who did feudalism benefit?
The two groups at the top of the feudal system, lords and churchmen, probably benefited the most from the system. They tended to be the wealthiest, were immune from some forms of taxation, were able to collect dues and tithes from the general public, and were the most likely to be literate.
What is feudalism?
Feudalism was a system in which people were given land and protection by people of higher rank, and worked and fought for them in return.
How did feudalism work?
In broad terms a king who owned all the land, would granted possession of the land to a lord, known as a fief. In exchange for the use of the fief and protection of the king, the lord provided service and supplies to the king. This often meant giving food, paying taxes and provding soldiers for war.
