Which law standards are more strict with controled substances?
State law is stricter and can not conflict with Federal Law
Which set of law does the pharmacist have to follow?
The more stricter set of laws.
What is a schedule 5 drug?
any drug that has the potential to cause dependence but the risk is extremly low
What is a schedule 1 drug?
drugs with no medical use
heroin, LSD, Peyote, Marijuana ect
What is a schedule 2 drug?
drugs with a high potential for abuse but have an accepted medical use. Severe physical or psychological dependence.
What is a schedule 3 drug?
a drug with moderate potential abuse/dependence
What is a schedule 4 drug?
a drug with mild/low potential abuse/dependence
What changes can a Pharm.D make to a Schedule 2 prescription?
dosage form, drug strength, drug quantity, direction and issue date.
What changes can a Pharm.D NOT make to a schedule 2 drug.
Patients name, Drug name, and Physican’s name
How many refills can be applied to a non-control, C3-C5, and C2 medication.
Non-controls- 1 years worth
C3-C5- 6 months (5 additional refills)
C2- no refills period
What is the maximum day supply that can be dispensed for a CII?
90 days
Multiple C2 can be prescribed as long as:
each is for a legitamate medical purpose notes the earliest fill date Can not be post dated legal under state law have separate rx numbers can not change the written date

Benzodiazepines, meprobamate, pemoline, phenobarbital, phentermine, carisoprodol, tramadol

what Schedule label and packaging details are required?
must have the control symbol on it and prominently located
What activites require registration for contorled substances?
manufacturing, distributing, dispensing, prescribing, research, chemical anaylsis, importing and exporting controled substances
What are the pharmacy registration requirements for dispensing controlled substances?
register with the DEA
each pharmacy registered separately
Renewal every 3 years
