Civilians killed by soldiers but later Cossacks refused to attack when ordered to

Rodzianko warned tsar by telegram
Tsar ignored and ordered duma to dissolve
27th Feb
Petrograd military district ordered to restore order by force - 40 killed
Mutiny in volynskii regiment
66,000 mutinied, 44,000 rifles
Police HQ attacked and prisons opened
Duma met - set up 12 man provisional committee
Army high command halted troops and told them to support duma
Petrograd soviet set up
28th Feb
Tsar sent telegram to Rodzianko offering to share power with duma (told it was too late)
Tsar made way back to Petrograd - train diverted to Pskov (200 miles south)
1st March
Petrograd Soviet said it would recognise provisional government
Order No.1
2nd March
Tsar abdicated (house arrest)
Grand Duke Mikhail refused offer of throne (hadn’t been consulted terms already agreed)
Provisional Government formed
