Features Flashcards
Why was the location of Sheffield Manor Lodge important?
It was in the centre of England- far from the coast so she couldn’t leave or converse with foreign threats. It was also far from Scotland and London so she was far from any other conspirators.
Was Sheffield Manor Lodge the only place Mary was held?
No. Shrewsbury had many houses and castles in the same area which Mary rotated around.
Why was it important that Shrewsbury had more than one place to hold Mary?
In case of other rebellions in the area.
What were the positive features of the lodge?
It had few open roads to it, a walled garden and newly built towers so you could see most of the Midlands.
What were the negative features of the lodge?
Over 250 families lived in the surrounding area- many could be Catholic. Additionally, it was on a huge piece of land therefore not all of it could be protected at any one time.
