FEA OF JOINTS Flashcards
1
Q
What are the THREE TYPES OF FEA CONTACTS?
A
1) STANDARD - separation and sliding allowed
between contact pairs (e.g. cartilages-meniscus in joints)
2) ALWAYS BONDED - e.g. femur-femoral
cartilage and ligaments-bones
3) MULTIPOINT CONSTRAINT (MPC) - Bones
modelled as rigid; and a pilot node controls
their rigid motion

Q
What is DEA?
A
Discrete Element Analysis
3
Q
When is DEA USED?
A
Used as an alternative approach to solving joint contact problems
* Many springs can be used instead of modelling the cartilage between joints
