FEA OF IMPLANTS Flashcards
What is an IMPLANT?
A device that replaces or acts as a fraction of an entire biological structure
What is TOPOLOGY OPTIMISATION?
Uses FEA to optimise the geometry of an implant, areas of low pressure/displacement can be removed while leaving the areas that provide the structural support
What are the FIVE TYPES OF CONTACT?
1) Frictional Contact
2) Frictionless Contact
3) Rough Contact
4) Bonded Contact
5) No Separation
What is a FRICTIONAL CONTACT?
- Sliding allowed
- Resistance proportional to the friction coefficient
- Can result in separation without resistance
What is the DEFINITION OF FRICTION?
The resistive force that prevents two objects from sliding
freely against each other.
What is the DEFINITION OF STATIC FRICTION?
The force that holds back a stationary object up to
the point that it just starts moving.
What is the DEFINITION OF KINETIC/DYNAMIC FRICTION?
Once static friction is overcome, kinetic friction is the force holding back regular motion
What is FRICTIONLESS CONTACT?
- Allows no penetration
- Surfaces free to slide and separation without resistance
What is ROUGH CONTACT?
- No sliding or penetration but no resistance in separation
What is BONDED CONTACT?
- No sliding, no penetration, no separation
- Acts as a single part
What is NO SEPARATION?
- No separation, No penetration but can slide
What is S.M.A.R.T STAND FOR?
Separating, Morphing, Adaptive and Remeshing Technology
