What were the criticisms of the New Deal?
> it did not provide jobs for Women and Black Americans
- did not change the position of black Americans- “first fired, last hired”
> did not provide many jobs for small farmers and city workers
> by 1939 9 million were still unemployed
> it was WW2 that finally lifted America out of the Depression
> Republicans disapproved
- taxes too high
- attack on free enterprise
- encouraged people to live off the state

What were the successes of the New Deal?
> helped America avoid the swing of Communism and Facism in Europe
> many jobs were created by the alphabet agencies

- 2 million jobs were created by the CCC
> the lives of 7 million were improved by TVA
> the income of farmers doubled between 1932-39 because of AAA
> trade unions developed with better hours and pay for workers
> the U.S. Banking system was secured
> created a SEMI WELFARE STATE with pensions for the sick and elderly

> 12 regional banks set up to stimulate house building and home ownership
