FCTM Flashcards
Which aircraft in the 7ER category has maneuver margins based on basic stick shaker schedules and does not include adjustments for the use of wing anti-ice?
757-300. Up to 5 knots should be added to maneuvering speeds when wing anti-ice is used.
Name four variables that decrease the maneuver margin (increase stall speed/decrease load limit proportional to bank angle).
Increase of gross weight, increase in altitude, landing gear extended, and/or speedbrakes deployed.
When using autothrottle to touchdown, what command speed should be set?
VREF + 5 knots.
If autothrottle is disconnected, or is planned to be disconnected prior to landing, what is the recommended method for approach speed correction?
Minimum command speed setting is VREF + 5 knots. If wind gusts are reported, add ½ the reported steady headwind component plus the full gust increment above the steady wind to the reference speed (not to exceed VREF + 20 knots).
What command speed should be set (orange bug) for takeoff using the MCP?
V2 - the minimum takeoff safety speed, it provides at least 30° bank capability (15° + 15° overshoot) for all takeoff flap settings.
What four takeoff reference speeds should be set using the white movable reference airspeed bugs?
V1, VR, flap 5 maneuver speed (VREF 30 + 40 knots), and flaps up maneuver speed (VREF 30 + 80 knots).
How should the four white movable reference airspeed bugs be set for landing?
Two bugs set at VREF for landing flaps, one set at the flap 5 maneuver speed (VREF 30 + 40 knots), and one set at flaps up maneuver speed (VREF 30 + 80 knots).
Which is the primary method to be used when flying in icing conditions concerning the wing anti-ice system, anti-ice or de-ice?
The primary method is to use the wing anti-ice system as a de-icer by allowing ice to accumulate before turning wing anti-ice on. This procedure provides the cleanest airfoil surface, the least possible runback ice formation, and the least thrust and fuel penalty.
If single-engine taxi is desired in a 757, which engine is preferred?
For passenger comfort, consider starting the left engine to minimize PTU hydraulic pump noise from entering the cabin during taxi.
Which engine is normally started first on the 767-300?
Right engine - to ensure both the engine driven and electric hydraulic pumps are available to pressurize the normal brake system. This also allows for bulk bin availability should the ground crew need to load additional cargo.
Achieving ___% N2 after engine start enables the EEC to have full authority which allows the engine to respond to thrust lever movements.
60%. If 60% N2 is not achieved, the engine may experience an extended hung start and/or EGT exceedance that may go unnoticed by the crew. If this goes undetected, it may result in the affected engine not responding when the thrust levers are set for takeoff.
How far aft of the engines does the high breakaway thrust hazard area extend on the 757?
400 feet.
How far aft of the engines does the high breakaway thrust hazard area extend on the 767?
500 feet.
What is the radius of the engine inlet hazard area on the 757?
16 feet, including 7 feet aft of the inlet.
What is the radius of the engine inlet hazard area on the 767?
18 feet, including 9 feet aft of the inlet.
