FBA Flashcards
What is a Functional Behaviour Assessment(FBA)?
The process by which we systematically examine the ABC’s around behaviour.
What are the 2 broad methods of FBA data collection?
- Indirect
2. Direct
Informant is a type of..?
________ assessment
Descriptive assessment and Experimental Functional Analyses are types of…?
______ assessment
What 3 things can interviews help to identify?
- Potential Replacement Behaviours
- Previous Interventions
- The conditions in which behaviour occurs around
Identify 4 additional methods of informant assessment?
- Rating Scales
- Questionnaires
- Checklists
- Records Review
What are the two well known types of data collection for informant assessment?
- Motivation Assessment Scale
2. Functional Analysis Screening Tool (FAST)
What can informant assessments provide that direct observation cannot?
- Perspectives over time, people and settings
- Insight into the historical variables surrounding behaviour
- Previous intervention
- Understanding of the persons lifestyle
Advantages of informant assessment?
- Least resource intensive
- Easy to do
Disadvantages to informant assessment?
- Data not always accurate
- Data not always consistent among informants
What are the two main ways to collect data on descriptive assessment?
- ABC analyses/ABC narrative recording
2. Scatterplots
What do scatterplots reveal about behaviour?
Temporal patterns - time of the day might be problematic in certain behaviours
What is the advantage to descriptive assessment?
It provides better information on the variables that surround problem behaviour, than informant assessment
Are there any disadvantages to descriptive assessment?
yes, it is more resource intensive and is moderately difficult to do. It also fails to provide a definitive cause of behaviour.
What is an experimental functional analysis?
The use of specific methods to test hypotheses about the variables that cause/maintain behaviour
