Fault mountains are block-shaped mountains formed by the rising of brittle crust up along vertical fault lines, which may leave a rift valley or graben at a lower level

Fold mountains are raised by compressional forces which push inwards, resulting in the bending and folding of the crust into great uploads called anticlines and downfolds or valleys called synclines
