Fascia of Upper Limb Flashcards
Axillary fascia
Forms the floor of the axilla
Pectoral fascia
Invests the pectoralis major
Continuous inferiorly with the fascia of the anterior abdominal wall
Clavipectoral fascia
Encloses the subclavius and then the pectoralis minor
Costocoracoid membrane
Part of clavipectoral fascia between pectoralis minor & subclavius, pierced by lateral pectoral nerve
Suspensory ligament of axilla
supports axillary fascia & pulls it inferior during abduction forming axillary fossa
Deltoid fascia
Invests deltoids
Brachial fascia
Encloses arm
Medial & lateral intermuscular septa
Attach to supraepicondylar ridges of humerus
Those septa divide the arm into anterior & posterior fascial compartments
Extensor retinaculum
Transverse band formed at distal end of radius & ulna, holds extensor tendons in position
Flexor retinaculum
Extends b/w anterior prominences of outer carpal bones & converts anterior wrist into carpal tunnel
Carpal tunnel
Flexor tendons & median nerves pass through
Palmar fascia
Has central part called palmar aponeurosis (thick, tendinous, triangular)
Palmar Fascia forms 4 thickenings that continue as sheaths of digits
Superficial transverse metacarpal ligament
Forms base of Palmar Aponeurosis
