What are some privileges and limitations of a private pilot certificate? 14 CFR 61.113
Privileges:
1) May act as PIC of an aircraft carrying passengers or property
2) May act as PIC of an aircraft towing a glider provided you meet the requirements of 14 CFR 61.69
3) May demonstrate an aircraft to a prospective buyer if the private pilot is an aircraft salesman and has at least 200 hours of logged flight time
4) May be reimbursed for operating expenses directly related to search and rescue operations, provided the expenses only include fuel, oil, airport expenditures, or rental fees
5) May act as PIC for a charity, non-profit, or community event described in 91.146
Limitations:
1) You may never act as PIC for compensation or hire
2) May not pay less than the pro rata share of the operating expenses of a flight with passengers, provided the expenses only include fuel, oil, airport expenditures, or rental fees
3) You may not act as SIC for compensation or hire, or on an aircraft that is for hire
What is the definition of a high-performance airplane?
An airplane with an engine of more than 200 horse power
What is the definition of a complex airplane?
An aircraft with retractable gear, flaps, and a controllable pitch propeller
When is a high-altitude endorsement required?
When operating as PIC of a pressurized aircraft with a service ceiling or maximum operating altitude above 25,000 feet MSL
What is the difference between Category, Class, and Type?
Category : Airplane, rotorcraft, glider, etc
Class: Single Engine Land, Multi Engine Land, etc
Type: DC-9, B737, etc
How long is a 3rd class medical valid for if you’re under 40? What if you’re over 40?
Under 40: 60 months
Over 40: 24 months
How long is a 2nd class medical valid for if you’re under 40? What if you’re over 40?
They are the same, 12 months.
How long is a 1st class medical good for if you’re under 40? What if you’re over 40?
Under 40: 12 months
Over 40: 6 months
What are the currency requirements to carry passengers at night?
Only required if carrying passengers 1hour after sunset to 1 hour before sunrise
Pilot must make 3 takeoffs and landings to a full stop between 1 hour after sunset to 1 hour before sunrise.
When do you log night time?
beginning of Civil Twilight to end of Civil Twilight
What does “High Fuel Pressure” indicate?
- lines could break
- increase in fuel burn
- could cause fire

If your aircraft does not have an MEL, what would you do to make sure your aircraft is airworthy with an INOP equipment?
1) Check 91.205
2) Kinds of Operations (Sec. 2)
3) Type Certificate (faa.gov (TCDS))
4) Airworthiness Directives (faa.gov)
5) If the equipment is not required in any of the above, then the PIC must deem it safe
