concept seems to be a strong predictor of the course of the disorder

schizophrenics living in families with high expressed emotion were 4 times likely to relapse than those living in families with low expressed emotion

individuals with schizophrenia in developing countries are much less likely to relapse than those in developed countries - thought to be better access to medications and treatment

are correlational and may reflect the consequences of living with a severely disturbed individual rather than having any casual significance
