Duncan&phillips- 50% of the ‘single’ population or in fact in serious relationships. Just because people are not married this doesn’t mean they will never be. People marry later

Increased to around 40% of all marriages
This has fallen since 2000 due to couples marrying later in life
It is easier and more socially acceptable
Women are less financially dependant on men
People often have high expectations of marriage
