fletcher: more lone parent families exist bv higher expectations of marriage - ppl are less willing to tolerate an unhappy marriage.
doesn’t mean marriage is in decline - its still popular! rate of remarriage is high

fletcher: nuclear families are best at primary socialisation and stabilisation of adult personality - implies that other family types are less able to perform the functions of the family
