- This is a federal court, operates in every state
- it can deal with financial matters arising from the break down of a relationship
- it provides judicial resolution of disputes such as divorce applications, parenting plans, spouse maintenance and property settlements.

- Family law act encourages to resolve disputes through FDR rather than court. You must attempt FDR before applying for a parenting order.
- FDR discussions are confidential and cannot be used as evidence in court.
- FDR practitioners help this process, they are impartial, no emotional help, just solve problems.

Family relationship centres
A
-Federal Govt run, 65 centres across Australia. They give advice to families to keep strong relationships, mediation and hotlines.

Family counselling
A
They give advice and moral support to families, they may advise suitable resources. It is confidential and cannot be used as evidence in court, however child abuse is reported.

Collaborative law
A
Parties have legal representatives who work with an expert in collaborative law to come up with the best outcome possible. There’s no court, high legal fees, but high success rate.
