Why is there a decline in infant mortality rate?
More effective healthcare for the mother and the baby
More children surviving means less children being born due to parents not needing to have as many, means less children dying as not as many are being born
Improvements in sanitation e.g. Clean water, education of hygiene, better housing and living conditions
Why is there a decline in birth rate? (Less children being born)
Feminism - women now have more opportunities educationally and professionally so are more career focused and either wait to have children later on in life or do not have children at all.

Secularisation (decline in the influence of religion)

Argue that due to more choices, freedoms, less obligation to follow societies rules, people are more individualistic. Many are choosing independence over childbearing.
