Give one reason for the increase of cohabitation
there’s a changing role of women.
Women have more options than those in early 20th century as they’re better educated and have better jobs

Visited a girls high school in two different years to find out what these girls wanted in life
1970s girls priorities were to find a love get married and have kids
1990s girls priorities changed to education careers and financial independence from men
Give another reason why there’s an increase in cohabitation
Change in social attitudes
There was a strong stigma of living in sin if you were in a relationship without being married in the pre modernity
The decline in social beliefs is due to process of secularisation where religion doesn’t play a big function to individual lives anymore
This was argued by Colin Gibson (1994).
Assess and briefly evaluate that British society is child centred
1) childhood extends Beyond the age when most kids reach physical maturity Many sociologists argue that it has only been in modern times that children have been separated from the adult world .for example being excluded from the work world of work and having to be confined in to education constitutions One change at societies have identified by sociologists contributing to the child centredness is the concerns about children. Parents have become more concerned about threats made to kids due to risks of accidents but also fear of stranger danger and paedophiles Frank fueredi (2001) argues that this is largely a moral panic encouraged by media and now massively influences parents
2) another change noted by sociologists that contributes to the emergence of society being more child-centred is children’s rights
The United Nations Convention on rights of the child (1989) extended the idea of human rights to suggest that children had specific rights in addition to those of adults.
In the UK in 1989 and 2004 children’s act established legal rights for children. For example in divorce cases courts must give priority to needs and wishes of children in decisions about where they live and access to each parent.
3) however…. kadford et al. (2011) child abuse and neglect in the uk today
Finding: children can experience a range of forms of abuse including physical emotional and sexual abuse as well as neglect of their basic needs such as adequate food clothing and warmth.
This clarifies that not all families are child-centred and there is a proportion of children who receive or experience abuse and family violence.
