What’ s a Nuclear Family?

A

Mum, Dad and 2 Children.

Adavantages and Disadvantages:

  • No interference from family on daily basis
  • Choose when to visit extended family
  • Children and grandparents may not have close relationships if seperated by long distances
  • Childcare will have to be paid for and done by non-family members

A

  • There are people to offer advice and give practical help eg. look after children
  • Money Advantages
  • Different approaches to childcare
  • Lack of Privacy

What is a Step Family?

A

A family where either the mum or dad have divorced an remarried . Kids from first marriage would get a stepmum or a stepdad.

  • The family may have a better quality of life
  • Children have both male and female role models
  • Sibley rivalry common - esp. with similar aged children
  • children may not bond with step parent and may resent them

What is a Single Parent Family?

A

Family where either mum or dad looks after children seperately.

  • Parent can make decisions independantly
  • Child maybe happier if moved from stressful situation
  • Parent has no one to discuss problems with
  • Hardwork for parent physically, financially and emoticonally
