Criticism of the functionalist view on family functions
- Family may not be as supportive as the functionalist view suggests, they see an idealistic view and ignore abuse
- Families are influenced by ethnicity, religion and class
- Out of date, fails to take account of diversity

- Not all male/female relationships involve the male dominance over women
- Outdated view, women now work outside the home
