Fallopian Tube Flashcards
Adenomatoid tumors of the fallopian tube
Benign mesothelial neoplasms
Irregular slit-like spaces (lined by mesothelial cells) surrounded by stroma and vacuoles
Risk factors for ectopic tubal pregnancy
chronic salpingitis (chlamydial, follicular, due to IUD. PID), salpingitis isthmica nodosa
Ampulla is the most common site
Choriocarcinoma
Admixture of cytotrophoblasts (clear cytoplasm), intermediate trophoblasts (eosinophilic cytoplasm) and syncytiotrophoblasts (positive for b-hCG and weak hPL) without the presence of chorionic villi.
all elements positive for cytokeratin
extensive necrosis (as tumors do not have blood vessels or stroma)
Rarely, intraplacental chorniocarcinoma diagnosed immediately after pregnancy
