Fallacy
appeal to evidence that is not relevant to the argument at hand.
Genetic fallacy
The idea that an argument is false because of the authors race, ethnicity, or geographic origin
Personal attack
attacking or praising the person who makes the argument as opposed to the argument itself.
Abusive
To argue that proposals must be false if they come from a certain group of people.
Circumstantial
The argument that a person must accept an argument because of situations in his or her life.
Argumentum ad Populum
using the appeal of the people to make someone agree rather than actually building an argument.
Band wagon approach
Basically, you should agree because everyone is doing it; whatever it may be.
Patriotic appraoch
The argument that something is right because it is somehow patriotic.
Snob appraoch
This argument doesn’t relay that everyone is doing, but that only the best are doing it.
Appeal to tradition
argument that something is right based on traditional values or customs.
Appeal to improper authority
this argument appeals to an authority that is not credible, such as a celebrity or false expert.
Appeal to emotion
An emotional appeal concerning an argument that is logical.
Argument from adverse consequences
Asserting that an argument is false because the implications of it being true would have negative effects.
Argument from personal incredulity
Asserting that an argument cannot be true simply because you cannot understand the argument itself.
Missing the point
The premise of an argument to support a conclusion, but not the conclusion that the arguer actually draws.
