Failure To Function Adequatley Flashcards

Q

What is failure to function adequately?

A

This is when an individual is incapable of carrying out behaviours that society would expect a person to complete, such as brushing teeth every day and holding down a job and getting out of bed.
Rosenham and seligmen suggested a way to identify this; unable to maintain eye contact, when a person experiences personal distress and when a persons behaviour becomes irrational or dangerous to themselves or others

Q

What is the evaluation points for failure to function adequately?

A

Can be used as a threshold when it is clear that people need medical help. 25% of people expierence mental disorder in any given year so by a person showing they are unable to cope from this shows that services and treatment can reach those who need it most.

May wrongly label someone who chooses to live an alternative lifestyle, they may not be able to hold down a job but they may be doing this knownliogy and feel fine

A

;limitation - extremely high standards, to view someone as abnormal for not having these traits will be very common in application because the standards are extremely high this may lead to false labels and may wrongly treat people.

May be culture bound- as in japan it is unlikely to work independently as there culture is differnet.
