A

may be considered ‘abnormal’ when a person can no longer cope with the demands of everyday life
ie failing to maintain standards of nutrition or hygiene, failing to hold down jobs or relationships
rosenhan & seligman (1989) proposed some additional signs:
fails to comply with interpersonal rules ie maintaining eye contact
experiences severe personal distress
behaviour becomes irrational or dangerous to themselves or others

strength
tends to be at the point that we cease to function adequately that we reach out for help
this means that the people who need help the most can receive it
