FADEC Flashcards
System continuously monitors and controls ignition timing, fuel injection timing, and fuel-to-air ratio mixture
Full Authority Digital Engine Control
does not require magnetos and eliminates the need for manual fuel/air mixture control.
FADEC equipped engine
Is a type of electronic control unit that controls a series of actuators on an internal combustion engine to ensure optimal engine performance.
Two Electronic Control Units (ECUs)
Panel is a system to alert operators of alarm conditions in the plant. In one common alarm sequence, the light in a window will flash and a bell or horn will sound to attract the operator’s attention when the alarm condition is detected.
Health Status Annunciator (HSA)
By receiving multiple input variables of the current flight condition including air density, throttle lever position, engine temperatures, engine pressures, and many other parameters.
FADEC Sensor set
-Are used mainly on select high-performance aircraft that have anti-skid braking systems.
Speed Sensor Assembly (SSA)
The dual-purpose is to compare the speed of one wheel to the other wheels and to measure the speed of the wheel after a touchdown in order to activate the anti-skid system.
Speed Sensor Assembly (SSA)
Comparing one wheel rotational speed to another wheel helps to identify a skid condition.
Speed Sensor Assembly (SSA)
It is also good to have an hour meter/tachometer so you will know if your engine is running at peak output and when maintenance is required.
Cylinder Head Temperature (CHT)
- Is an essential tool used to monitor the running temperature and health of a (2) stroke engine.
Cylinder Head Temperature (CHT)
-Is a measurement of the temperature of the exhaust gases at the exhaust manifold.
Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT)
As the temperature of the exhaust gas varies with the ratio of fuel to air entering the cylinders, it can be used as a basis for regulating the fuel/air mixture entering the engine.
Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT)
-Sensor is a key sensor because it senses engine load.
Manifold Air Pressure (MAP)
generates a signal that is proportional to the amount of vacuum in the intake manifold.
Manifold Air Pressure (MAP): sensor
(?) then uses this information to adjust ignition timing and fuel enrichment.
Manifold Air Pressure (MAP): engine computer
- Sensor is usually mounted in the intake manifold so the tip will be exposed to air entering the engine.
Manifold Air Temperature (MAT)
-Senses the amount of fuel in the fuel rail by reading the internal pressure of the rail.
Fuel Pressure Sensors
-Controls the mass flow-rate of air (in fuel-injected engines) or air/fuel mixture (in carburetted engines) delivered to the cylinders.
Throttle Position Sensor
Consist of high voltage harness and spark plugs
FADEC Ignition System
Number of plugs per cylinder
