Factos affecting enzyme activity Flashcards
Inhibtors
- inhibit enzyme function
-competitive Inhibition: blocking the active site of the enzyme
-non-competitive enzyme: binding to the enzyme at a non-active site cauing changes to shape, preventing binding of substarte.
Allosteric REgulation
-assit enzyme funtion
- ions or small organic molecules
-bind to the enzyme at a non-active site and changes its conformation to the correct shape
-this site is referred to as aliostric site
-the enzyme’s active site can now receive its substrate/no longer inhibit and turn it on
Feedback inhibition
-the inhibitor is a product of the enzyme reaction
-as the product concentration increases,m less of it needs to be formed
-so some of the product stays binded to the enzymes active site shutting it off
Denaturation
-occurs when proteins loose their shape due to exposure f high temps or changes to pH
-affect hydrogen bonds and disulphide bridges
-don’t disrupt peptide bonds
-cause proteins loss of function
-normal conditions are restored, the protein will return to its normal functioning shape, as long as its primary structure is not disrupted
