Factors Influencing The Development of Products Flashcards
Define anthropometrics
The use of body measurements to determine
the optimum size for products for comfortable and efficient use
Give examples of anthopometric data
- How far people can reach
- How much space people need
- How much force they can exert
- Height of a person
- Length of arms/legs
What is the 90th percentile?
- If 100 people are using a product, 90 of them should be able to use it comfortably, with possibly the smallest 5 being too small to use it, and the tallest 5 being too tall
- Ensures products are suited for the largest proportion of users
What are factors to take into account when obtating anthopometric data
- Age
- Country
- Age of survey
- Gender
What is ergonomics?
The study of the interaction between the human body, products and the surrounding environment.
What are the two methods of analysing ergonomics?
- Quantative
- Qualitative
Eaxplain qualitative and quantative approaches
Quantative = (measurable) relates to the physical fit of the human body in relation to speed of performance and workload
Qualitative = o(pinion based) relates to the overall comfort experienced by the user
Give examples of how good ergonomics can benefit users
In industrial machinery and tooling, it can increase efficiency, productivity and reduce errors and accidents.
Inthe workplace, it can increase productivity, comfort, anmd lower risk of pains and injuries
