Factors And Divisibility Flashcards
What are factors?
Factors are numbers that when multiplied together, equal a specific number.
Ex: the factors fo the number 6 are 1, 2, 3, and 6.
What does product mean?
Product means multiplication.
The product of two factors should equal a specific number.
What is the “Greatest Common Factor”?
It’s the largest factor of the shared factors of two different numbers.
Ex:
Factors of 48> 1,2,3,4,6,8,12,16,24,48
Factors of 60>1,2,3,4,5,6,10,12,15,20,30,60
Therefore, the greatest common factor (GCF) between 48 and 60 is 12.
What is a rough explanation of “product of primes”
A tree diagram with initial #s at the top of the tree. Branches represent 2 numbers that when multiplied equal the # above. The branches continue until only prime #s remain.
What is divisibility?
Divisibility refers to the fact that when you find the factors fo a number you can also consider them “divisors” of that #.
EX: 1,2,3, and 6 are factors of 6. This means that 1,2,3, and 6 are also divisors of 6.
What are the rules of Divisibility?
- # s divisible by 2 end in 0,2,4,6,8
- # s divisible by 5 end in either 0 or 5
- # s divisible by 10 end in 0
- If the digits fo the # add up to 3 then the # is divisible by 3. Ex: 336 is divisible by 3 because 3+3+6=12
- If the digits of the # add up to 9 then the # is divisible by 9. EX: 45 is divisible by 9 because 4+5=9
