Factors Affecting Weather. Flashcards
Where is there high albedo ?
The North and South Pole .
What does albedo mean?
The amount of the suns energy reflected back into space.
Why does the equators sun rays have less atmosphere to pass through than at the poles?
The equator is warmer and has a low albedo.
Name 2 reasons why the equator is always hot?
- The dark rainforest absorbs heat.
* The equator is right in the centre and is facing the sun therefore gets direct sunlight.
Why is it colder above sea level?
The air gets thinner - so can only hold onto less heat .
On average how much does temperature fall for every 1000m?
6.4 Degrees Celsius .
Why does the sea take longer to heat up ?
The heat can penetrate to depth.
If places near the sea take a long time to heat up in summer, what would the temperature be like?
In summer the temperature would be cool.
Places far from the sea heat up quickly in summer so are warm but cool down quickly in winter , what would the winter temperature be?
Very cold.
Where would a farmer prefer his land to be and why?
South facing to increase the growing season.
Why would a ski resort be north facing?
If it was facing south the sun would slowly melt the snow/ice.
What current increase winter temperature in uk ?
A warm current (the North Atlantic drift ) .
Which current decreases winter temperature in Eastern Canada?
A cold current (The Labrador Current) .
