Factors affecting Photosynthesis Flashcards
What happens to the photosynthesis rate when light intensity increases?
The rate of photosynthesis increases too untill it reaches a saturation point
What could be the light saturation point happen cause of
Enzymes in the chloroplasts are all used up or operating at full capactity
One of the reactants for photosyntheisis is a limiting factor
What is the difference in light intensity affecton photosynthsis on C3, C4 AND CAMplants?
No difference, they all undergo light dependent reactions
WHAT CHLOROPHYL pigment absorbs the most amount of light
Chlorophyll a and chlorophyll B
Why does water availability affect the rate of photosynthesis
Photosynthesis requires water as an input
2. When the water loses water too much, the stomata closes and then therefore preventing gas exchange which decreases photosynthsis
Generally higher the tempreature the higher the photosynthesis rate? True or false
True until it reaches its optimal temp
Why cant a plant temp go past its optimal temp
Because the photosynthetic enzymes begin to denature
2. Or Rubsico will have a higher affinity to oxygen than co2 in plants ( except c4)
What are all the factoes that affect rate of photosynthesis
- Light availability
- Temp
- pH level
- Water availability
- Carbon dioxide concentration
Increasing the CO2 in the athmosphere is good for the plant yes?
No as an increasing C02 concentration increases tempreature, wchich increases the affinity for Rubisco to bind with Oxygen instead of C02
What is the 2 reasons for saturation point of Concentration dioxide
- Enzymes in chloroplasts is used up
- Another factor needed for photosynthesis is a llimiting factor
What do competitive inhibtors do
They bind to the active site and compete with the substrate
What do non compettives inhibitors do
They bind to the alloesteric stie of an enzyme anf changes the enzyme shape preventing subtrates from binding
Talk about the effect of increasing substrate concentration when competive inhbitors are present
The effect of competitive inhibitors can be overcomes as the substrate concentration is increased as there is a higher chance for subtrates to be bind with the enzyme
