Negative effect on recall - Johnson and Scott (1976)
A
- Led pps to a waiting room, thinking they would be taking part in a lab study.
- Heard an argument in the next room.
- In the ‘low anxiety’ condition, the man walked out with a pen and grease on his hands.
- In the ‘high anxiety’ condition, the man walked out with a paper knife and blood on his hands.
- 49% pps identified man holding pen, however only 33% identified man with bloody hands. Showed witnesses focus on the weapon more, rather than the person.

Positive effect on recall - Yuille and Custhall (1986)
A
- Conducted a real life study on a shooting in a shop in Toronto, Canada.
- 21 witnesses, 13 agreed to take part in the study.
- Interviews held 4-5 months after incident, and were compared with the original police interviews taken at the time of the incident.
- Accuracy was determined by number of details reported in each account.
