Factors Flashcards
Factor I - Fibrinogen
Source: Liver
Common pathway; converted to fibrin (insoluble weblike substance of clot)
Factor II - Prothrombin
Source: Liver (synthesis requires vit.K)
Common pathway; converted to thrombin (converts fibrinogen to fibrin)
Factor III - Tissue Factor
Source: Tissue cells
Activates extrinsic pathway
Factor IV - Calcium ions
Source: Plasma
Needed for essentially all stages of coagulation process; always present
Factor V - Proaccelerin
Source: Liver, platelets
Common pathway
Factor VII - Proconvertin
Source: Liver (synthesis requires vit.K)
Both extrinsic and intrinsic pathways
Factor VIII - Antihemophilic factor (AHF)
Source: Liver, lung capillaries
Intrinsic pathway; deficiency results in haemophilia A
Factor IX - Plasma thromboplastin component (PTC)
Source: Liver (synthesis requires vit.K)
Intrinsic pathway; deficiency results in hemophilia B
Factor X - Stuart factor
Source: Liver (synthesis requires vit.K)
Common pathway
Factor XI - Plasma thromboplastin antecedent (PTA)
Source: Liver
Intrinsic pathway; deficiency results in hemophilia C
Factor XII - Hageman factor
Source: Liver
Intrinsic pathway; activates plasmin: initiates clotting in vitro; activation initiates inflammation
Factor XIII - Fibrin stabilising factor (FSF)
Source: Liver, bone marrow
Cross-links, forming a strong, stable clot
